Other - The Mustang

Building cars was my first real hobby. I worked as an auto mechanic from 1995 to 2004 at a small shop in Brea, CA, and became interested in amateur drag racing during this time. In 1998 I bought a 1967 Mustang Fastback, swapped out the 289 motor out for a 351 Windsor, and soon had the car running the quarter mile in 12.2 seconds, plenty fast enough to embarrass Corvette and Porsche owners. I drove the car to work and school every day until I bought a truck for commuting, then went through the entire Mustang again with the goal of making it as fast as possible on pump gas while maintaining some street driveability. The result was a stripped down 550 horsepower monster capable of clicking off 11.1 second quarter mile times. On a sticky track the car can pull the front wheels off the ground. I hit the Orange County and LA street racing scene and quickly made a name for myself, only losing 1 heads up race out of about 40 over the course of a summer. These days the car mostly collects dust, but it does still pick up the groceries on occasion...
