2012 - August 2 - 5 » Rainier and Seattle

Mt. Rainier is the king of the Cascade Volcanoes, the volcanic range dotting the landscape from Northern California to British Columbia. I'd climbed a handful of the others, but had yet to get to the top of this 14410 foot giant, having been thwarted by weather on a previous attempt. This time two friends and I made the approach to Camp Muir on Friday August 3rd, and left camp with just a few hours of sleep at a late 3am on Saturday, and made the summit just before 10am. A beautiful climb up the steep Emmons Glacier with great company softened the effort, and we celebrated with a few of Seattle's great local beers Saturday night.  A quick jaunt through downtown Seattle and the Pike Place Market on Sunday reminded me of what a great city Seattle is....
