Peru

The first ten photos are from a trip to Cuzco (a world heritage site and the "heart of South America") and Machu Picchu in December 2005. It was a rather short trip on the way to Argentina. The remaining photos are from my return to Peru to do some climbing. Peru has some of the world's highest and most accessible mountains, an amazing mountaineering playground. We started out in Ishinca Valley by climbing Urus Este (17782') and Ishinca (18143'), before moving on to higher mountains, Pisco Oeste (18871'), and Chopicalqui (20817'), the latter being a mountain I've wanted to climb since first seeing pictures of its incredible summit ten year previous (visible in the 5th from last photo). Taking advantage of being acclimated, we continued on to Bolivia to tackle some of its high volcanoes...
