Along with friends Phillip Stinis and Phillip Wegge, we hiked the cluster of HPS peaks centered around Mt. Wilson. One by one, the peaks would hardly be worth the drive out, but collectively they made for a full day. It was especially clear out, affording views well beyond San Nicolas Island – the most remote of California’s Channel Islands.
We started by driving to the summit of Mt. Wilson, then hiked Mt.Occidental, followed by an out-and-back hike that crossed over Mt. Deception, Mt. Disappointment, San Gabriel Mountain, Mt. Lowe, and Mt. Markham. We squeezed in a quick hike of Mt. Sally off the 2 highway, before celebrating with a cold beer and heading down to La Canada for a big meal.
